Title: Reflectance Modelling of Multi-Layered Surfaces for Pattern Recognition
Overview
- Modelling surface reflectance is important to applications in computer vision and has attracted increasinginterests from the vision community for the past years. Specifically, accurate surface reflectancemodels are essential for shape and texture analysis, pattern recognition and material classification.
-
Despite the vast knowledge of reflectance models, little effort has been spent on recovering statisticallymeaningful patterns from reflectance models. This research makes use of reflectance models for thepurpose of pattern recognition on multi-layered surfaces, including human skin. This task is cast aslearning the reflectance model parameters and matching the learned statistics between surfaces. The potential application of this research includes (but is not limited to) the recovery of skin and plant leaf patterns for biometrics and health/enviromental applications.
